Naples:
The Cathedral – consecrated in honor of the city’s heavenly patron Saint Januarius. It is the residence of the Archbishop of Naples.
The Church of San Gregorio Armeno – an ancient church of Saint Gregory, the enlightener of Armenia.
The Church of San Pietro ad Aram – it is said that the altar where Saint Peter preached when he was in Naples is located here, and here he baptized the first Neapolitans who converted to Christianity – Saint Candida and Saint Aspreno.
The Church and Monastery of San Domenico Maggiore – the Dominican order, the chapel of Saint Thomas Aquinas, where Christ spoke to Thomas during prayer. Thomas Aquinas, the author of the “Summa Theologica,” was closely associated with the Neapolitan monastery of San Domenico Maggiore.
Early Christian catacombs (Catacombs of Saint Januarius and the underground church, catacombs of Saint Gaudiosus). At the foot of the Capodimonte hill in Naples are the famous catacombs of St. Januarius – here the first Neapolitan Christians and church fathers were buried, including Januarius (whose name the catacombs bear). The catacombs contain ancient altars, a necropolis, and early Christian frescoes.
Amalfi:
The Cathedral – the foundation of the Amalfi Cathedral dates back to the 9th century, and the bronze doors were made in Constantinople in the 11th century – a gift from the Byzantine emperor. The relics of Saint Andrew the First-Called are kept in the crypt of the cathedral, and numerous pilgrims come to venerate them.
Ravello:
The small village of Ravello is located in a beautiful and inaccessible place, once inhabited by business people who withdrew from the affairs of medieval Amalfi. The cathedral in Ravello was founded in 1086. Behind the main altar is a chalice with the blood of Saint Pantaleon the Healer.
