Here you can see sketches of inventions by Leonardo and the models created based on them, most of which were made for the grand exhibition of 1952, organized in honor of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s birth.
Located in a former 16th-century monastery in the heart of Milan, the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology is one of the largest museums of its kind in Europe.
A separate hall is dedicated to the creations of the great Leonardo, who lived in Milan for 19 years. It seems incredible that one person could encompass so many different disciplines: mechanics, optics, hydraulics, military affairs, and much more.
The samples of mechanisms displayed in the hall demonstrate this.
The most popular part of the exhibition among visitors is dedicated to vehicles.
The first pavilion is entirely devoted to 20th-century railway transport: old locomotives and trams of various types never fail to delight the youngest visitors.
An astronomical laboratory, astronaut suits from ‘Soyuz’, and even a fragment of a chemical element from the surface of the Moon.
The next large pavilion is dedicated to water and air transport. Here is a real sailing ship ‘Geba’, as well as an authentic part of the transatlantic liner ‘Conte Biancamano’.
It will be interesting to see various authentic examples of airplanes, torpedoes, cannons, as well as the fate of the masterpieces of the great Tuscan, lost paintings, and new discoveries. The history of Stradivari violins and the ‘devil of music’ Paganini.
The most famous part of the collection is located outside the walls of the pavilions. This is not surprising, as it concerns a real submarine (‘Enrico Toti’), the first built in Italy in the post-war period.
