The city of Sabbioneta, included, along with Mantua, in the UNESCO World Heritage list, is a vivid example of fortifications from the Renaissance era. The city walls have been preserved to this day. The city was built by its owner and ‘founder’ – Vespasiano Gonzaga, according to the ideal models of urban planning of that time. Sabbioneta, also called ‘little Athens’, presents itself to tourists like Mantua – with its own Ducal Palace, a private residence, Palazzo dell Giardino, and a long ancient gallery, with a breathtaking theater designed by architect Scamozzi and one of the few synagogues in this province. The tour includes visits to two palaces, the theater, and the synagogue.
Every year, in the second week of August, Sabbioneta celebrates ‘white nights’. All events and performances last the whole night.
