Visit to the Cathedral of Duomo with an ascent to the observation deck located on the roof of the cathedral. This is a unique opportunity to see up close the characteristic features of the Gothic temple, which is the most vivid example of “flaming” Gothic in Italy.
Visit to the archaeological excavations: two early Christian Baptisteries and the remains of the church of Santa Tecla – in the Roman era, there was a temple dedicated to Minerva on the site of the Milan Cathedral, and in the early Christian times, the church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the church of Santa Tecla. By the 16th century, both of these churches had been demolished. And in their place, the Cathedral of Duomo was built.
Visit to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – a covered shopping gallery in the center of Milan, one of the first passages in Europe, built between 1865 and 1877. The building of the gallery is shaped like a Latin cross with an octagonal center, decorated with mosaics depicting four continents (except Australia), as well as allegorical representations of art, agriculture, science, and industry.
Visit to the La Scala Theater and the theater museum – an opera house built in 1778, a world center of opera culture. The building was constructed on the site of the demolished Gothic church of Santa Maria alla Scala, from which the popular name of the theater originated. During the excavation of the site for the theater’s construction, a large marble block was found, on which Pilate was depicted – the famous mime of Ancient Rome.
