The wonderful aviation museum is nestled “next to” the largest Milan airport, Malpensa.
Its name comes from the Italian “vola” – flying. The museum is practically called “The Land of Flight.”
It is located in historic hangars and on the grounds of the once-famous Caproni company – one of the pioneers of world aircraft manufacturing, and it was opened for visits quite recently.
At the entrance to the museum, you will be greeted by a full-size model of the “Italian Yak-130” — Aermacchi M-346 Master.
The exhibition is quite extensive and includes about fifty aircraft, both well-known and unique.
Italians are very proud of their aviation history, of being at the forefront when aviation was just emerging. Many stands, models, and several real samples are dedicated to the role of engineer Giovanni Caproni and the company he founded in 1908.
Within the walls of the museum is the first airplane designed by Caproni, the Caproni Ca.1, built in a single copy.
As well as later, quite modern for their time machines.
One of the bestsellers of the Italian aviation industry is the training aircraft SIAI-Marchetti SF-260TP.
A distinctive feature of the museum park is that a significant part of the exhibits is “integrated” into a specific environment. Yes, this is also found in other museums, but to a lesser extent.
So why is it still a “park” and not just a museum? Obviously, because of the significant size and functionality of the area designed for future pilots, engineers, and designers.
This is a “training hall” with full-fledged flight simulators, covered and open themed playgrounds, an exhibition of model aircraft, which includes more than 1200 scale copies of aviation technology.
Here you can also just relax: a special area for corporate events and a picnic area. Cafes and bistros are at your service.
The museum is open every day except Monday and December 23, 24, 25.
